The message listed a small sequence of permissions for that file, then said it was an operating system file, and do I want to proceed? I typed yes, but it did not excecute. Not sure it was due to following: I got an error message on the third command (rm /Library/Preferences/). ![]() PS As well as Chris' solution may have worked for others, it had no effect on my black screen. After toiling several hours with other methods this unlikely suggestion fixed it instantly. ![]() ![]() Poof, the user desktop was back in a blink, with previous open windows (mail and activity monitor). ![]() Hi, the solution by kevinphipps is the only one that worked for me > "type the user password, blind, in the black screen".
